Initially a song written by Carole King, “You’ve got a Friend,” is a wonderful, affirmative ballad that touches the heart.

Released in February of 1971, Carole King and James Taylor actually both recorded versions of this song at the same time, in the same studio, and each performed on the other’s song as well.

Though King says she did not write this for James Taylor, he says she wrote it in response to his song, “Fire and Rain.”

It has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, and when I heard Stacey Kent’s version she inspired me to do my own cover.

I hope you enjoy it.
